Rights of the Insured
Insurance companies will sometimes recommend independent body shops. It's important to know that it is your legal right to have your car repaired in the facility of your choice.
Your Rights as a Hyundai Owner
Unfortunately, accidents are a fact of life. If you do have an accident, it's important to return your vehicle to its original state. If your vehicle is no longer drivable, refer to the section on Hyundai Roadside Assistance and/or the PEA, but please finish reading this first. It concerns you as a Hyundai owner.
After the accident, immediately contact your insurance company. Your insurance representative might try to direct you to a particular body shop for a quotation and/or repairs, but you are not legally held to use this shop. Since you own the vehicle, and you pay the insurance premiums, you have the right to choose the body shop you would like to deal with.
Don't hesitate to inform your insurance company that, as a Hyundai owner, you expect:
- your vehicle to be returned to its pre-accident condition, using only genuine Hyundai parts;
- the repairs to be made by a Hyundai dealer body shop (or by a reputable body shop recommended by your Hyundai dealer);
- the technicians working on your vehicle to be trained by Hyundai.
Remember:
YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TO CHOOSE THE BODY SHOP YOU DEAL WITH
For more information, consult the brochure entitled An accident changes everything, which you will find in the glove compartment with the owner's manual. Your dealer will also be happy to advise you.
